Imagine Black leads the charge of civic engagement with programs such as their Childcare Campaign, Afro-Ecology Project, and Public Safety Campaign
Portland, OR — August 29, 2022 — Portland-based non-profit organization Imagine Black celebrates receiving the coveted state-based award, National Secretaries of State (NASS) Medallion Award 2022, from Oregon’s Secretary of State, Shemia Fagan. The ceremony recognizing Imagine Black along with six additional various community leaders is slated to air live from the Oregon State Archives on August 30, 2022, at 11:00 AM on the Secretary of State’s Instagram @OregonSOS.
“We are honored to accept this award from Secretary Fagan and the state of Oregon,” says Joy Alise Davis, Executive Director at Imagine Black. “We are encouraged knowing that what we do to improve the community for historically disadvantaged populations matters not just to the community and us, but also state leadership at large.”
Imagine Black’s programming includes their Childcare Campaign, where the organization advocates for bold action to fix Oregon’s childcare crisis, their Afro-Ecology Project, where the organization aimed at building a colorful world with Black joy, where Black communities are well-connected, safe from toxins, and thriving. Their Public Safety Campaign is where the organization advocates to reinvest government dollars towards transformative community alternatives safety that supports a healthy, healed Black community.
Awardees receiving NASS Awards alongside Imagine Black include: Danny Rodgers, Julie Yamaka, Patricia “Pat” Reser, and Danny Cage. In addition to NASS awards, Taneesh Greg and Elizabeth Bratz will receive John Lewis Youth Leadership Awards.
